On Tuesday, August 30th, 2011, Gilt City co-hosted the Park Tavern official opening party, celebrating the launch of the new American bar and bistro located in San Francisco’s Washington Square Park. From 6:30 to 10 p.m., guests sampled the Park Tavern’s delicious new menu featuring boldly flavored favorites with a modern twists as well as the expertly crafted specialty cocktail menu.

Housing an eclectic blend of vintage fixtures and warm, comfortable furnishings, Park Tavern features a mix of casual and elegant dining. A National Program to Nurture Canada’s Next Generation of Fashion Designers

TORONTO, ON – Mercedes-Benz Canada, and IMG, a global sports, fashion and media company, announced today the launch of Mercedes-Benz Start Up. Produced in conjunction with LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris, Mercedes-Benz Start Up is a new initiative that is intended to provide a national platform to discover and support up-and-coming Canadian designers who have been in business for less than five years. By connecting these gifted individuals with an experienced panel of industry insiders, the program will mentor impressive Canadian talent to help them hone a broad range of skills and elevate their profile through unique and exclusive opportunities. This unprecedented access to experts, combined with invaluable real-world practical experience, will equip participants with a comprehensive roadmap to success and the knowledge and confidence required for a thriving career in fashion.

Following today’s announcement, the Mercedes-Benz Start Up team will begin meeting with influential fashion media, buyers and educators in key Canadian markets to identify talented and ambitious designers that would qualify as suitable candidates.

All the submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of industry judges who will follow a list of specific criteria to ensure objectivity and fairness. From this pool of submissions, a total of 20 designers will be selected to advance to the next round: the semi-final competition.

In the first year, the semi-finals will be conducted in two provinces, but it will expand to include four provinces by the second year and beyond. This will ensure that Mercedes-Benz Start Up is truly a national program that is easily accessible to designers across the country.

The semi-finals will yield a total of four designers who will be invited to show their collections at the national final held during the official schedule of LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris in October 2011. This will provide successful participants an invaluable opportunity to prominently showcase their designs on the runway to thousands of prominent industry representatives.

Following the national final, only one of the four semi-finalists will progress to the next stage of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up program. He or she will be rewarded with access to key industry mentors for a period of five months to help the chosen candidate prepare his or her debut solo show that will be presented as a highlight on the schedule at LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris in March 2012.

Oscar De La Renta 2011 Pre-Fall Haute Couture Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus San Francisco

On May 19, 2011, Neiman Marcus’ third floor salon was filled with incredible Oscar de la Renta haute couture. De la Renta, being no stranger to detail and precision, made sure there was no lack thereof in his new collection. As I began to walk through the clothes, heavily beaded and embroidered strapless and one-shouldered gowns, usually bejeweled around the neckline or waistline, flowed out from the clothing racks. Gowns struck a romantic, sophisticated, glamourous, yet sexy note with black tulle and silk organza, beaded lace, and gilded colors.

The gowns beautifully shaped and flattered the female figure, much of the time resembling the silhouette and style of a woman from a René Gruau world and the first noticeable motifs were the fine florals and twisting lines. But the gowns suddenly turned into stiff, cheap prom dresses made out of parkas. From Palm Beach. Successfully, however, it dove back into sophistication with a slinky, black velvet dress and a Poiret-inspired, cocooning silhouette of a twisted ruffle empire skirt and black silk organza.

Two pinnacles of the trunk show were the voluminous and feathered Gruau-inspired evening gowns and the 19th-century-inspired dresses: pastels, bows, slight Oriental embroidery, and high-necked boleros.

The rest of the collection was not very inspiring to me, personally. Modern pieces, profoundly influenced by tribal designs and dense colors, seemed foreign and inharmonious next to couture gowns that could have easily been worn by an Irving Penn or Richard Avedon model.

It is been a week of pure FASHION in San Francisco, all in anticipation of the Academy of Art 2011 Graduate Fashion Show. The week had an agenda full of activities including symposiums, luncheons and judging, the exquisite list of Fashion personalities including: Fashion Critic of the New York Times, Cathy Horyn, President and Artistic Director of Sonia Rykiel, Nathalie Rykiel, Fashion Designer, Executive Producer of IMG Fashion, Christina Neault (the power behind NY fashion Week), Proprietor of Coeur d'enterprise, Laura du Pavillon, and Fashion Designer Yigal Azrouel among others joined Dr. Elisa Stephans, President of the University, Gladys Perin Palmer and local personalities to honor Horyn and Rykiel with a VIP luncheon-reception.

And, on May 5, 2011 the tent at 601 Brannan Street opened its door to welcome guests of honor who arrived to review and celebrate the senior fashion students' portfolios.

Th surprise cameo of the night came with the last minute appearance of International Herald Tribune Fashion Editor Suzy Menkes who sat in the front row to watch 15 student designers as their models strutted on the runway.

It was a fascinating show of cutting edge designs, mixed textiles and well elaborated structures. Among my favorites were Peter Loc Tan Nguyen from Vietnam, a collection inspired by men's wear and tailoring. I also loved the fashion and textile design collaboration of Lauren Haut and Darrin George inspired by loss of innocence, 1950 and 1960 wallpaper and tailoring. The collaboration of Brittany Burggraff and Wendy Tam collection inspired by dark children's stories, vintage lingeries was one of my favorite over the top collections. And, finally, the designs of Drew Williams from San Francisco, a collection inspired by agarose gel electrophoresis....Fantastic creations!!

Buenos Aires, April 2011- On March 22, 2011 the Buenos Aires city government debuted Buenos Aires Runway at the Metropolitan Design Center (CMD) located in the traditional Barracas neighborhood. Designed to showcase local designers, last month’s inaugural edition put some of the finest Argentinean styles on display for the Fall-Winter 2011 collections.
This first edition of Buenos Aires Runway served as a project platform to celebrate Argentinean fashion as a new creative field, as well as reinforce its integration into the industry and economy.

The second edition of Buenos Aires Runway will include several new and exciting additions. The event, to be held in Fall 2011, will feature business rounds with buyers around the country, various conference cycles and a showroom similar to the main fashion event in Latin America.

In all future editions of Buenos Aires Runway, new talent will continue to be selected, with the goal of offering these upcoming designers the professional tools and base to establish adequate connections within the local and international market.

With help from prestigious IMG Fashion, Buenos Aires Runway seeks to become a part of the international fashion calendar while also establishing the city of Buenos Aires as a symbol of design and fashion.

Among the designers who participated in the first edition of Buenos Aires Runway:

Marcelo Senra, an Argentinean native, known for her ethnic and tribal designs, was selected last year by the Argentina Ministry of Foreign Affairs to show her collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Daniela Sartori, a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires, she works with organic material and speciailizes in tailoring. Her clothes are unisex.

Min Agostini studied architecture at the University of Buenos Aires and uses that background in her designs. She’s known for her short skirts with big volume, dresses and urban coats. In 2009, she was selected by the Argentina Ministry of Foreign Affairs to show her collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Fabian Zitta, once a doctor, studied design at the University of Buenos Aires. He is inspired by Art Deco and his collections have many layers.

Marina Dappian, a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires, she was insipired by pictures her daughter scribbled on the wall of the house. She works a lot with wool.

Mariano Toledo is an argenitinian Designer who works on Latin America Project Runway. His Fall-Winter 2011 Collection included some leather goods and jackets that are typical of his design. He appreciates a masculine style that highlights feminity with personality, mixing skirts, ties, and transparent pants.

Balenciaga and Spain, the De Young Museum's current exhibit examines a captivating look at the influence of Spain's culture, history art and traditions on the legendary master designer Cristobal Balenciaga who was born on January 21, 1895 in Guetaria, Spain.

The exhibition features 120 Balenciaga's greatest creations including garments, hats and headdresses drawn from the strengths of the Fine Arts Museums's costume holdings and private collections which include the Archives Balenciaga, Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Paris's Musee de la Mode and Musee Galliera and, of course, some of Mr. Bowles' own collection.

The exhibition begins with the display of a pink silk taffetta evening dress, Winter 1957, worn Mrs. Peter Baumberger. It is then followed by an introductoryt gallery featuring three decades of Balenciaga's signature silhouettes, all in tones of black that demostrate his mastery of volume, his use of fabric and masterful embellishment. From there, it unfolds in six areas: Dance, Bullfighting, Regional dress, Spanish Art, the Spanish Court and Religious Ceremony. English photographer and designer Cecil Beaton hailed Balenciaga as "Fashion's Picasso." In his work Balenciaga shows the refinement of France and the strength of Spain. He uses fabric like a sculptor working in marble. Hamish Bowles, the show's curator, remarked on his exquisite skill in everything down to the last stitch. The legendary Coco Chanel called Balenciaga "the only couturier." All the other, she said, "are just draughtsman." He had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was hailed a "the master of us all" by Christian Dior.

Black begone!! This year the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards welcomed the most fashionable Hollywood stars to its red carpet in fabulous colors like emerald green, blush, metallics and reds. Angelina jolie looked absolutely stunning in a Versace number, by far the best dressed of the evening.

Jennifer Lopez was simply impecable in a white Zumir Murad number. Expecting mom Natalie Portman dazzled in a viktor & Rolf piece and Colombian born actress Sofia Vergara from Modern Family added sassiness to the red carpet in a red fitted dress with a black tie at the waist by Vera Wang.

As recently mentioned by Carolyne Zinko in the San Francisco Chronicle, an exciting new game has been launched on Facebook called Fashionista FaceOff.

Developed by Viroxoty Studios in San Francisco (Joel Goodrich and Damion Mathews), Fashionista FaceOff was created as a way for people to get together who enjoy the glamour, glitz and excitement of fashion.

It is free to join the game, and enter the weekly fashion challenge. Players simply shop among a selection virtual boutiques (featuring clothing inspired by the world’s greatest fashion designers), and create as many outfits as they’d like. A fantastic fashion show was presented by a fabulous group of graduating students from the school of fashion at the Academy of Art University San Francisco on May 6, 2010. I have to admit that the show was better than NY...It was the vision, and aesthetics of sixteen new talented designers who officially debuted in the fascinating, yet hard, world of fashion.

The opening fashion show was guided by Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of the University , who presented an Honorary Doctorate to Suzy Menkes, OBE (the most excellent Order of the British Empire), Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, and Fashion Editor of International Herald Tribune. I had the pleasure and honor to chat and exchange comments on the fashion show with Suzy....my HUGE moment!!

What was exquisite and different about the fashion show was to see the different perspective and vision of so many young designers. Each collection was unique and different from the other. Yuzuan Cheng was born in China and came to the US ten years ago. Cheng presented a collection with textile design collaboration by Delphina Rodriguez that was pure detail work. It was not feminine, but rather a tailored men's look. "I want to bring the men's tailoring into women" she said. The structure and construction of each piece was inspired by David Bowie, poker and men's wear.

Stephanie Hoffman took center stage with her knitwear design that was inspired by Surrealism and haute Couture of the 1930s and 1940's. The feminine look inspired by the women of 1920s and 1930s was designed by Amelia Statler who used different shades beige in antique lace. And, my favorite collection was by Rinat Brodach. She brought the femme look to the Academy of Art fashion show with her vision of fall's defined big shoulder, structured jackets in a beautiful shade of military dark green, a reminiscent of designers like Zac Posen and Balmain.

And, of course, the show was wrapped up by a men's leather collection designed by Ashon Sylvester...absolutely out of control!! It was inspired by futuristic Native American Warrior on another planet with a a twist much needed on the catwalk. Ashon was able to capture the audience attention, without any hesitation.

And much deserved, Rinat and Ashon were awarded by Suzy Menkes with a sister City Scholarship Exchange in Paris, Rinal at L'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and Ashon at Studio Bercot.

Congratulations to the 2010 Class Academy of Art new designers!....The fashion show was impeccable and with a much needed twist of different alternative and vision of many creative minds from the structured and detailed oriented men's look, the femininity of European designs to the captivating haute couture of the men's futuristic design.

Peru Moda, the largest fashion event in Peru and considered among the most important in Latin America opened their doors to welcome more than 7,000 visitors from around the world on April 28, 2010 at The Real Felipe Fortress in Callao, Peru. Visitors were dazzled by the creations of more than 35o exhibitors who showcased alternatives to the fashion world highlighting a unique and compelling product that has become the signature of Peru, Alpaca, a wool derived from the llama relative of the same name. Alpaca, its derivatives, and the world famous Pima cotton, offers garment manufacturers around the world creative options to deliver fashion and glam.

The inaugural ceremony was officially opened by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism Martin Perez, Vogue Editor LatAm Eva Hughes, Regional President of Callao, Victor Albrecht, Peruvian dignitaries and fashion influencers: Miss Peru 1987 Jessica Newton and Miss Peru 2001 Marina Mora.

It is amazing to see how Peru's influence is growing internationally with the influence of the international press and visitors from over the world. This year the exhibit has earned millions in sales in a three days event that gathered international buyers like Cost Plus World Market, ABC Carpet&Home, San Diego Zoo, Phillips Collections, Ten Thousand Villages, among others.

During my two day visit, I attended the Vogue Pasarela (fashion Show) and the Dinners Club. At the Vogue catwalk, the list of Peruvian designers included: Sumy Kujon, Roger Loayza, Sergio Privat, Rosario de Armendaras, Claudia Bertolero, Ana Maria Guiulfo and Sergio Davila. All the designers presented a vision of beautiful designs that added chicness and glamour to the luxurious quality of Peruvian alpaca. The Dinners Club Fashion show showcased the collection of Fatima Arrieta, Claudia Jimenez and Meche Correa.

I was blown away by some of the collections presented by young talented Peruvian designers like Elmer Castro. Absolutely fascinated. And I am a really tough critic when it comes to fashion. But Elmer definitely captured my attention. His designs were fashionable, glamorous and over the top, just the way catwalks should be. When I saw the collection of alpaca and vivid color many designers came to mind Galliano, Gaultier and not necessarily because of the similarity, but because of the approach and uniqueness of the collection with a funky twist that only a similarly creative mind would be able to visualize.....Bravo Elmer Castro!!

Another designer that caught my attention was Gerardo Privat, This young Peruvian talent is a reminiscent of Elie Saab in his designs and the sobriety of the personal looks of Tom Ford, my idol. He presented his new comercial line Marquis by Gerardo Privat. This line incorporated looks that were fun, young, yet up to date: big shoulder, chain and micro mini dresses, following the trend of the big catwalks in Europe in a more affordable way. Gerardo created this line exclusively for Ripley, one of the biggest department store in Peru. The same concept has been seen in the USA like: Jimmy Choo meets H&M or Zac Posen meets Target.

Of course, I must mention the first row VIP list: Renee Meyer, Dora Raffo, Gerardo Padilla, Marina Mora, Jessica Newton, Juan Carlos Matthews, Peru's Director of Export and Promotion among others. It was a real pleasure to attend the Peruvian Fashion Show at Peru Moda 2010 .

Beyond the Front Row, the Academy of Art University’s student fashion club, has partnered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco for the first annual Give Two, Take One (G2T1) clothing swap and clothing drive on Saturday, April 17th, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the 79 Gallery, the university’s gallery at 79 New Montgomery Street (between Mission and Jessie Streets) in San Francisco.

Open to the public.
Entrance is free for those with “swap tickets” or clothing to donate. Otherwise there is a $2.00 (two dollars) cash entrance fee. This is a swap and cash only event.

For every two (2) items of clothing and/or accessories donated, donors will receive one (1) “swap” ticket to exchange for one (1) item of their choice at the G2T1 event on Saturday, April 17th. Acceptable donations include clothing, jewelry, shoes and other accessories such as hats, scarves, gloves, belt, and handbags. Please make sure all items are clean and in excellent condition. Undergarments, children’s clothing, or any items with signs of damage and stains cannot be accepted.

In addition to the swap, all clothing and accessories already donated are priced to sell. This is a cash only event. All remaining clothing and accessories will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for their various community programs that help to feed, clothe, and shelter more than 75,000 individuals per year. As a Peruvian, I feel extremely proud of our rich culture and ancient heritage and even prouder of the success of Peruvians abroad like Mario Testino....How difficult it must be not to be Peruvian, goes Testino's famous quote. "Que dificil debe ser no ser Peruano" was the slogan embedded in white t-shirts worn by the catering crew and models at the Grand Re-opening reception.

I was able to attend the unforgettable moment of his book signing at Maxim's, the historic Parisian Belle Epoque Restaurant, that he owns and has turned into a global brand.

It was a memorable time in Paris...I grew up admiring his view of the world of fashion, his brand, his designs...HUGE!! Within the Paris we know, there is another layer of Paris where only the cognoscenti have explored, "the private and Privileged world of exclusive pleasures and hideways. That was the case of my very private and privileged "wine Tasting" at the The Four Season Hotel George V.

George V, the most exquisite and prestigious Hotel in Paris is graced on a daily basis by fresh and spectacular flower arrangements cautiously and beautifully designed by floral designer Jeff Leatham. Flowers are flown in twice a week from Amsterdam. Although, it is not my first time at le Cinq. This time, it was different. I was treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience wine tasting.

Upon arrival, I was escorted through the kitchen to the hidden and spectacular wine cellar located 14 meters below floor level, below the Siene and the metro. Here, Cedric Mountpoint led us to the amazing infrastructure of carved stones and history where the most exquisite and prized rare bottles of wine are stored at the perfect temperature including Corton Charlemagne by Coche-Dury, a range of Musignys, and the rare Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1945 (36,000 Euros)

The building foundation goes deep into the stone quarry where quarriers extracted the stones to helped build the nearby Arc de Triomphe. Victoria Yaeger Sawyer, Afsaneh Akhtari, Fashion Designer Sonya Rolin, Ivonne Cohen, Asim Abdullah were transported to the magical world of wine, hors d'oeuvres and a first class display of the fabulous 50,000 bottle collection of the world's best wines. Such a treat was led by Director and Sommelier, Eric Beaumard. It was without a doubt, the best wine cellar I have ever visited! It is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe!!!! Thanks Sonya Rolin for such an amazing treat. The history along behind the cellar was unforgettable.

This trip to the last leg of the global catwalk was short, but rewarding. The Ungaro Fashion Show was my next stop on Monday, March 8. The Pre-A-Porter Automne-Hiver 2010 collection was showcased at one of the exquisite rooms at the Westin Hotel, a first time for the venue after being held previously at the Carrousel du Louvre- Salle Le Notre. The front row here included fashion editors from around the globe, as well as the regulars fashionistas. And, of course, San Francisco Elite including: Joel Goodrich, Afsaneh Akthari, Victoria Yaeger Sawyer and Joy West joined house owners Isha and Asim Abdullah, too.

The stylist room was set for a catwalk with beautiful chandeliers and draping red curtains framing the room. Paparazzi, photographers, and the A-Listers eagerly awaited the show as they set their flashes to be the first to capture the new look on the runway.

Leopard prints, bright colors, polka dots and a combination of different textures including men's wear fabric dominated the collection of draped and rouched party dresses, tailored jackets and jumpsuits. The collection was very wearable, but yet missed the essence of the Emanuel Ungaro: Fun and elaborate designs with finesse. Estrella Arch, the new Chief designer who joined the house on September 2009 designed this collection without Lindsey Lohan collaboration.

It's been a rough path for The house of Ungaro. Controversy has surrounded the iconic brand in last few years: the constant change of designers, either negative reviews or less than stellar retail sell-through, the addition of the controversial Lindsey Lohan as the Artistic Advisor, to the sudden departure of the latest CEO Mounir Moufarrige. We can only wish the best to The House of Ungaro and to our friends, San Francisco-based Owners Isha and Asim Abdullah.

Paris Fashion Week Pret-A-Porter 2010: My Journey

I have to admit that this season, I was not sure whether to attend the always anticipated PFW or the extravaganza of the Oscars in LA. Between the chaos of both ends overlapping with pure fashion, I needed to make a decision.....I chose Paris!! And without any reservation, I must say that My Paris Fashion Trip was absolutely divine!!!!

In the midst of the cold weather the beauty and energy of Paris has refueled and fed my inner fashion spirit and creativity.....How could it not? Being a city of fashion, beauty and romance, once you inhale its beauty you become immersed in it....living and breathing it, all at once.

My first stop was Costes, one of my favorites lunch/dinner and after hours drinks place. What started as late lunch ended up with after hour drinks...what a surprise!!! Here, we saw many familiar faces and friends from all over the world. Sometimes I forget that Paris is my second home. The ambience is chic and sophisticated and surrounded by the most fashionable and beautiful jet-set....from super models, fashion editors, designer and entrepreneurs to local Parisians, Tres Chic!!!

Matignon was my next stop. Located at 3 Avenue Matignon, it is the latest and newest restaurant/club. The food was to die for...cooked to PERFECTION!!! Here, fashion goers attended the latest after fashion parties. And if you are off to something more intimate while rubbing shoulders with parisian VIP's, then just around the corner, literally a few meters away, there is of one of the most exclusive address in town, Le Mathis at 3 Rue de Ponthieu.....the intimacy of the small bar draped in red provokes a strong reaction. You either love it or hate it....I particularly loved it!!

On March 2, 2009, San Francisco's energy was radiant, the crowd exquisite and the ambience to die for....all the stars were aligned to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Bulgari store in San Francisco, the largest store in the U.S.

The spectacular soiree was hosted by Nicola Bulgari, vice Chairman and grandson of founder Sotirio Bulgari, and USA Managing Director, Veronika Treint, and produced impeccably by Allison Speer PR .

Without a doubt, it was the most anticipated event of the year. The extended VIP list of nearly 300 were treated to special libations inspired by Bulgar's signature fragrances and created with Grey Goose, delicious caviar, and of course, the float of Veuve Clicquot. Just as the cocktails delighted our palates, our ears enjoyed amazing jazz by Patrick Wolfe and DJ Max Chipchase.

The elegant three level and 13,000 square feet store displayed a spectacular collection of one-of-a-kind jewels and minaudieres from Bulgari's Vintage Archive Collection, previously displayed at the brand's 125th anniversary retrospective exhibition in Rome.

And, of course, San Francisco's most fabulous elite were dazzling with glam and glitz showcasing some revolutionary Bulgari pieces: Denise Hale, who was spotted with a super-sized diamond encrusted bracelet, custom made for her by Giorgio Bulgari, Mayor Gavin Newson, Vanessa Getty, Trevor and Alexis Traina, Oj Shasby, Marissa Mayer, Willy Brown, Sonya Molodetskaya, Dede Wilsey, Tatiana Sorokko, Angelique Griepp, Maggie Rizer, Paul and Elizabeth Touw, Lisa Alexander, Elizabeth Thieriot, Jenna Hunt, Sobia Shiakh among others.

February 13, 2010: It's been two days since the tragic loss of our iconic designer, Alexander McQueen, but the show goes on. The Fashion crowd gathered at Bryant Park to attend some of the most anticipated shows of the week today: George Chakra, Andy & Debb, Adam, Academy of Art University and Project Runway Six Season winner Irina Shabayeva.

In the midst of a freezing day, I attended the Edition by George Chakra fashion show at the Promenade. His collection dazzled the runway of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. He presented a total of 42 looks including a mix of beautiful cocktail dresses, asymmetrical, and strapless evening-wear with nude inserts, reverse tuxedo cocktail dresses and coats, lace pantsuits and an amazing wedgewood blue, double-face mohair, off-the-shoulder sweater, which was one of my favorite pieces....the off-the-shoulder mohair sweater was sexy, but yet chic.....I could have worn that on my trip...It was so cold, and of course my closet is just full of mini dresses and mini furs...LOL!!!

The Lebanese designer's collection was dominated by vibrant reds, blues, blacks, metallic and futuristic silvers in materials like chiffon, crepe, mink silk, velvet and lame. The focus of his collection, without any doubt, was excessiveness within bounds.

February 11, 2010. As the Bryant Park tent opened for the first shows of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the Fashion World was still reeling from the news of the passing of an irreverent, unforgettable, fashion icon, designer Alexander McQueen. The news was devastating and brought a solemn tone in counterpoint to the excitement of the beginning of the Fashion Season. Personally, I was in state of a shock as I was preparing to take off to New York.

This year's Fashion Week was always going to be memorable. It was also always going to be a bit sad. But for different reasons. Rather than being a memorable event because of it being the last year the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was going to take place in Bryant Park, instead it became a day to be remembered as the saddest day in the history of fashion.

Visitor's to McQueen's Manhattan store placed flowers and notes to commemorate his passing and express their sense of loss. McQueen was expected to present his latest collection on March 9 during Paris Fashion Week.

"We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen's influence was astonishing-from street style to music culture and the world's museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss," read a statement by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

The Fashion World lost a young talented artist, known for his exquisite couture-quality gowns and over-the-top theatrical fashion presentations. He was innovative, a renegade and a revolutionary. He was also controversial. His repertoire was admired by some, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katie Holmes, and Penelope Cruz among them but also criticized by others. McQueen pushed boundaries like no other. His legacy will live on forever!!!

These three were not the only talent at The London Hotel. Attending the show was the talented actress/singer-songwriter Mya. So was Ke$ha, known for her single, "Tick Tock". Jessie James also arrived, fresh from her tour with the Jonas Brothers before she heads out on the road with Kid Rock. All were delighted and amazed by the superstar combination of Rosalina's jewelry, designs by Maggie Coulombe, and make-up by Michael Marcus. Ke$ha fell in love with Rosalina's designs and tried on almost everything at the show before settling on a few pieces including a tear-drop acquamarine and diamond ring she showcased on the Red Carpet at the awards. Young stars Brooke Lauren and Erin Newburg of Secrets of Aspen fell in love with the sexy, fun, and edgy looks that have made Maggie's resort-style ready-to-wear a must-have. Michael's talents with make-up so stunned Mya that she came back both days to get ready for her events.

What an incredible night to be in glamorous LA in the midst of the Golden Globe celebrations!!!. The famous Sunset Street Boulevard was gridlocked with Bentleys, Maybachs and limosines of all types, lined up down the legendary street in front of the hottest places including Chateau Marmont, Boa, Mondrian just to mention a few. Celebrities "A-listers" were in view hopping from one "IT" party to the next.

While the craziness of the Golden Globes Pre-/post parties took over Hollywood, Mireille Schwartz, philanthropist and San Francisco Magazine Editor, along with her daughter Charlotte Jude, hosted a "Forever 21" birthday and Kick-Off party for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Houdini Mansion. The newly redesigned boutique boasts entrances on both Maiden Line and Geary. The design is the work of New York architect and long time CHANEL collaborator Peter Marino. It is an expression of the CHANEL legacy. He has given the store a sense of detail and timeless style for which CHANEL is known. Guests will enjoy pleated silk paneling, custom-created, hand plastered walls, and an ivory cabuca stone floor. Walls and ceiling feature patterned plaster with gold leaf, a gold travertine floor, tweed inspired carpet, custom CHANEL tweed sofa in beige, white and black (of course!), custom slipper chairs in woven pink, beige and white fabric, and suspended lacquer shelves. The store has sections for Ready-to-Wear, Handbags, Costume Jewelry, Shoes, Watches and Fragrance and Beauty. In celebration of this exciting reopening, two looks from the cruise runway 2010, a special handbag and shoes, will be available exclusively in San Francisco.

Without any doubt, the CHANEL re-opening in San Francisco was one of the most spectacular productions of the year.

I recently attended one of the biggest event of the season, The San Francisco Fall Antique Show, benefitting Enterprise for High School Students. This is the oldest continuously operating antique show on the West Coast (established in 1981 as a major fundraising event). The show gathers more than seventy dealers from across the nation and Europe showcasing a range of fine and decorative arts representing all style and periods for SF's elite crowd.

The San Francisco Fall Show runs from October 29 through November 1 at the Festival Pavilion At Fort Mason Center. This year the show's Lecture Series theme is Egyptomania: The Antique Culture Wars, Jewels in the Egyptian Style, (Egyptian symbols and motif have been a source for artistic inspiration over thousands of years), Napoleon's Empire and Egypt, in this lecture designer Deschamps traces the influence of ensuing Egyptomania in interior design, decorative and fine art.

And of course, San Francisco biggest fashionistas and social elite attended the always anticipated event.
