Summer BBQ: 4th of July

It is summertime!!!!! And right around the corner is one of the most anticipated American celebrations, Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and democracy was born. Each 4th of July, we Americans celebrate freedom with barbecues, picnics, parades, fireworks and gatherings of friends and family.

It is always a challenge to decide what to wear for such a patriotic celebration. Here in San Francisco the unpredictable weather is always a factor as we try to pick the most desired ensembles. Here are a few suggestions.

As a fashion stylist I have to recap the "must-have" accessories for the summer as part of your every day routine:
  • Sunblock. Wear sunscreen every day and make sure your sunscreen has at least titanium dioxide or zinc oxide that prevent ultraviolet rays from penetrating the skin, and broad-spectrum coverage to block both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Oversized Sunglasses. Add instant Hollywood glam as well as protecting your eyes from the sun.
  • Makeup. Keep your make up to a minimum by adding just a touch of bronzer and keeping your lipstick to light and fresh colors.
Summer Barbecue

Whether you are by the pool, by the beach, or just outside in the backyard, we must incorporate...Gosh, I can't believe I'm saying it ;-) ....a little bit of comfort without sacrificing too much of our style for the summer barbeque look. Think light....a little floral dress, a light chiffon sundress, or just a white dress are key pieces. Team them up with strappy (jeweled) flat sandals, or with beautiful wedges (espadrilles) and accessorize with a slouchy bag or a straw tote. Of course, don't forget to put on a pair of oversized sunglasses and the big floppy sunhat, any type of wide brimmed hat will protect your face from the sun and look fabulous. You can always incorporate patriotism by adding a hint of red or blue, but don't overdo it.

Happy Birthday America!!!!

The Lady Noire Affair: By Christian Dior

Click on the above link to watch the film

Dior does it again! Leave it to the creative minds at Christian Dior to showcase their line in an exciting and innovative way. Dior just released a phenomenal black and white short film. The six minute thriller features French actress and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and was directed by Oliver Dahan, the director of Cotillard's Oscar-winning film, "La Vie en Rose."

The Lady Noire Affair Chapter One is the first in a series of four planned mini films. Film director Dahan describes the work as "an enigmatic story about a heroine named Lady Dior and the tempting and romantic alchemy between a mysterious and entrancing femme fatale yet so fragile and determined by love."

In essence, this amazing production is a motion picture evocation of Dior's Parisian style. Highlighting the Lady Dior bag, the Lady Noire Affair uses glamour and beauty as a meaningful way to market Dior's luxury brand. Dominated by the beauty and masterful performance of Marion Cotillard, the film brings out Romanesque luxury inspired by the grand classics as a way to turn Dior back into an iconic brand......Fabulous Film conceived by Icon John Galliano!!!!

San Francisco's Fashion Designer: Joseph Domingo

His designs are sensuous and sexy and yet classy......We are talking about San Francisco's own fashion designer, Joseph Domingo. The acclaimed designer has been creating beautiful pieces for his muses and men for years and takes pride in designing clothes that incorporate classic design elements and emphasize construction and the aesthetic of symmetry.

Model from Vancouver

Joseph Domingo, began as an architect but was drawn to the fashion world and has been clothing San Francisco's elite men and women out of his San Francisco studio. Joseph's range includes custom made fashion alternatives that are impeccable and fit to perfection including sports wear, swim wear, and evening wear.

Domingo debuted his own amazing fashion line, after years of intense work, during the 2006 Mercedes Fashion Week held at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles. Three years later, his increasing mastery and innovative fashion designs shine ever brighter in the fashion community. His designs now also feature at the Vancouver Fashion Week. Domingo continues to rise as a major designer in the fashion world.

His work has been featured in fashion magazines nationwide: LA Direct, Cosmopolitan, and Nirvana, among others. And his designs have been worn by celebrities including Jenifer Esposito, Shakira and Rebecca Romijn.

On May 31, he celebrated his 10 year anniversary with a retrospective fashion show. The celebration took place at The Supper Club in San Francisco. It was an evening filled with a mix of fashion and art. He presented his retrospective art of ten years in the industry. The hour long show was preceded by cocktails and followed by a delicious dinner for VIPs.

Models after the show

Domingo's models were styled to perfection with extravagant jewelery by Vancouver jewelry designer Morgan Mallet for Design and Conquer. The show was organized into flights, grouping ten years of Domingo designs by color. This showed, to great effect, the different textures, designs, and fabrics that are his signature.

The fashionable crew that stayed for the after party enjoyed a spectacular multi-course meal. Wine was provided courtesy of Wente. The music and dancing were fabulous and everyone had a great time.

We hope that this is the first of many local shows for our beloved designer. It's ironic that Joseph Domingo has been better known in other cities and we hope to see a lot more of his events here. More information is available on his website (www.josephdomingo.com).

Summer's Hottest Fashion: Epi Center Medspa 11th Anniversary

What is this summer's hottest fashion?

Margaret Mitchell and Jennifer Schaefer

What's the one part of any evening's ensemble you always wear? Before you put on the hot dress, the smoking shoes, or the glitter and bling, the biggest fashion statement is made with your SKIN. Healthy, smooth and clear skin is always IN. This was a key message at the recent 11th Anniversary Celebration of the San Francisco Epi Center Med Spa, an institute for sustainable beauty.

Medical Director Scott Mosser ( Left)

Zem Joaquin, Joy Bianchi, Jennifer Schaefer and Margaret Mitchell

The Epi Center was opened in 1998, the first of its kind and an ongoing leader in the field of skin rejuvenation, combining cutting edge medicing and eco-friendly and organic techniques, such as its proprietary PhotoFacial Elite treatment. The center was named "The greenest Spa" by SF Premier Lifestyle magazine 7x7, noting its role as vanguard in the "green beauty" movement.

The nation's first medical spa gathered San Francisco's VIP list list to join Founder and President Margaret Mitchell, Medical Director & Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Scott Mosser, Director of Clinical Operations Jennifer Schaefer, and their staff to cheer another successful year in business.

Reginald Stone Singing Unforgettable

A Dance To Be Remembered

It was a night filled with a fabulous performance by Reginald Stone, singing the classic Nat King Cole favorites. Among the SF elite on the guest list were socialite Joy Bianchi, Ecofabulous Founder and Style Guru Zem Joaquin, the Leftwhich Team: Founder Sam Leftwhich, President Richard Okiuye, Design Christopher Lee, Le Club Owner Gina Milano, Wick Design Founder Will Wick, and many others

Joy Bianchi

In addition to the beautiful celebration and the healthy glowing skin, we were also treated to another evening of SF fashion. Joy Bianchi and Jennifer Schaefer were impeccable in vintage (Jennifer's Gucci shoes were unforgettable). Margaret Mitchell was stunning in a bright red, floor length gown. Gina Milano was channeling Marilyn Monroe in a sleevless, sea foam cocktail dress. Obviously, being eco-friendly doesn't mean fashion gets left behind

Fabulous Edition Shoes (Limited Collection)

The impact of the exquisite collection was the talk of the evening. This line delivered gorgeous gems, bold shoes and over-the-top accessories that were fashionable and updated.

Susan Alvarez, Marco Querci and Anja Hart

Joy Bianchi and BR President Jack Calhoun

Cross Marketing, the SF-based firm owned and founded by Claudia Castillo Ross, delivered another successful and flawless event.

Representing Banana Republic were executives including President Jack Calhoun, Peter Deluca SVP Marketing, Simon Keen EVP of Design & Creative Director, Anja Hart VP Accessories & Merchandising, Susan Alvarez Merchandise, Sheila Shekar Marketing & Communications, Marco Querci Handbag Designer, Anna Periklos GM Edition just to mention a few.

Bravo to the creative team that came up with a line that is exquisite but with a price point accessible to the most reluctant shopper.

We can't wait for the next run of Edition pieces. Remember that the idea behind this new concept is to maintain an exclusive and limited production of pieces, no more than 50-100 available worldwide. For example, I managed to land a pair of shoes I LOVE (see above) and only twelve pairs were produced. Period. It's breathtaking.

FYI the products are HOT and selling fast!!!!
