It is summertime!!!!! And right around the corner is one of the most anticipated American celebrations, Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and democracy was born. Each 4th of July, we Americans celebrate freedom with barbecues, picnics, parades, fireworks and gatherings of friends and family.
It is always a challenge to decide what to wear for such a patriotic celebration. Here in San Francisco the unpredictable weather is always a factor as we try to pick the most desired ensembles. Here are a few suggestions.
As a fashion stylist I have to recap the "must-have" accessories for the summer as part of your every day routine:
- Sunblock. Wear sunscreen every day and make sure your sunscreen has at least titanium dioxide or zinc oxide that prevent ultraviolet rays from penetrating the skin, and broad-spectrum coverage to block both UVA and UVB rays.
- Oversized Sunglasses. Add instant Hollywood glam as well as protecting your eyes from the sun.
- Makeup. Keep your make up to a minimum by adding just a touch of bronzer and keeping your lipstick to light and fresh colors.
Whether you are by the pool, by the beach, or just outside in the backyard, we must incorporate...Gosh, I can't believe I'm saying it ;-) ....a little bit of comfort without sacrificing too much of our style for the summer barbeque look. Think light....a little floral dress, a light chiffon sundress, or just a white dress are key pieces. Team them up with strappy (jeweled) flat sandals, or with beautiful wedges (espadrilles) and accessorize with a slouchy bag or a straw tote. Of course, don't forget to put on a pair of oversized sunglasses and the big floppy sunhat, any type of wide brimmed hat will protect your face from the sun and look fabulous. You can always incorporate patriotism by adding a hint of red or blue, but don't overdo it.
Happy Birthday America!!!!
